THE WATERBOYS
Book Of Lightning
(Decca)

With a crack band including guitar innovator Leo Abrahams and ex-SYN drummer Jeremy Stacey, singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist Mike Scott and The Waterboys return for the 2007 CD release of Book Of Lightning. Scott and company made their breakthrough back in the mid ‘80s and their latest, Book Of Lightning is a modern pop classic and is a welcome return to form. The follow-up to 2005’s double CD remaster of Fisherman’s Blues, 2007’s ten cut Book Of Lightning simply shines while the great leadoff cut, “The Crash Of Angel Wings” is a modern psych-pop extravaganza in the classic later period T.Rex / Velvets spirit. Commenting on the album, Scott adds, ‘I think it’s one of my strongest ever collections of songs, I’m very proud of it.’ www.mikescottwaterboys.com
