MARC ANTOINE
Hi-Lo Split
(Peak / Concord)

Easy on the ears guitar instrumentals (a/k/a-smooth jazz) isn’t just made by the Spyrogyra’s and Hiroshima’s of the music world. Case in point is French guitarist Marc Antoine, who’s just released his eighth album and first for the Concord-based Peak label. Antoine’s forte is jazz and classical guitar sounds and he blends them both to great effect on his 2007 eleven track CD Hi-Lo Split. Antoine’s mix of drum programming, bass and nylon string guitar melts like butter on French toast on a funky cover of the Classic IV chestnut, “Spooky,” while a host of Antoine originals prove he’s no slouch on the compositional side of things either. Recorded in Madrid, Spain, Hi-Lo Split serves up a range of guitar moods with much success. www.marcantoine.com
