KIM RICHEY
Chinese Boxes
(Vanguard)

Making albums since the mid ‘90s, Kim Richey released her sixth album in 2007. Her latest album has a Beatles connection as it was produced by Giles Martin—son of Beatles producer George Martin. Upbeat, breezy, catchy pop, Chinese Boxes was produced by Martin in London. From Nashville and recording in London, Richey adds, ‘London’s not a place I go as a tourist. I feel really at home here.’ On working with the younger producer Martin, Ms. Richey claims, ‘Giles is very musical, with a pop and classical background. Everything he does is melodic and well placed.’ Pop fans may want to check out Richey’s Martin / Beatles connection, but don’t forget to check out her memorable, musical gems. Touches include Mellotron flutes, whistling and Leslie guitars and with Martin handling the keyboard parts, the list of session players here also includes the electric guitar of Jez Ashurst. www.kimrichey.com
